About The Position

Originally formed through Anderson Mechanical Services, Inc. and Inspiration Plumbing Company, VMG brings decades of industry experience together with a forward-thinking approach to delivering high-quality mechanical solutions. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced HVAC Superintendent to lead field operations and the successful execution of commercial HVAC construction projects in the Charleston, South Carolina area. This role is ideal for a hands-on field leader with strong HVAC expertise who takes pride in building strong teams, maintaining safe and productive jobsites, and delivering high-quality projects from startup through closeout.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supervising commercial HVAC construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, ductwork, mechanical piping, and equipment installation
  • Proven experience leading field personnel, subcontractors, and multiple phases of commercial construction projects
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, sequencing, manpower planning, and field coordination
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management technology
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 preferred
  • Experience leading large-scale commercial HVAC construction projects
  • Strong hands-on background with ductwork, mechanical piping, HVAC equipment, and related systems
  • Experience managing HVAC projects from startup through testing, commissioning, and closeout
  • Experience coordinating with Project Managers, general contractors, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and other trades
  • Proven ability to manage manpower, schedules, and field productivity

Responsibilities

  • Lead HVAC Field Operations: Oversee day-to-day field operations for commercial HVAC construction projects. Lead and coordinate Foremen, field crews, subcontractors, vendors, equipment, and materials. Develop and maintain project schedules, sequencing, and manpower plans. Monitor field productivity and ensure project milestones and deadlines are met. Coordinate HVAC work with Project Managers, general contractors, subcontractors, and other trades. Participate in project meetings with clients, general contractors, engineers, and project partners. Identify field challenges and potential conflicts early and develop solutions to keep projects moving.
  • Drive Safety & Quality: Promote and enforce VMG safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project-specific safety procedures. Conduct jobsite safety meetings, inspections, and toolbox talks. Identify and address potential hazards, incidents, and near misses. Ensure HVAC systems are installed according to project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and VMG quality standards. Monitor workmanship and address quality concerns throughout all phases of construction. Coordinate inspections, testing, startup, and other quality-control activities.
  • Manage Project Performance: Plan manpower, materials, equipment, and resources to support project schedules. Monitor daily production, labor productivity, and overall field progress. Coordinate equipment and material deliveries to prevent unnecessary delays. Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and construction documents. Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower logs, schedules, and project documentation. Coordinate equipment startup, testing, inspections, punch lists, and project closeout activities.
  • Lead & Develop the Team: Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to HVAC field crews and subcontractors. Set clear expectations for safety, productivity, quality, and professionalism. Coach and develop Foremen, Mechanics, Apprentices, and other field employees. Promote accountability, teamwork, and strong communication across the jobsite. Help identify and develop future field leaders. Lead by example and foster a respectful, results-driven work environment.
