About The Position

The Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanics to maintain essential building systems, ensuring they are safe, energy-efficient, and reliable. This role involves hands-on work performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC systems to keep DGS facilities running smoothly. The position supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, focusing on maintaining proper air flow, temperature control, and equipment performance across various buildings. The role also includes collaboration with outside contractors, agency representatives, and other trade staff on HVAC system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, units, and equipment.
  • Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech training program in refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation and six months experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, related digitally controlled equipment, or BA systems.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration equipment.
  • An active motor vehicle license.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in HVAC, Refrigeration, Building Automation Systems, or closely related field.
  • Experience utilizing Building Automation Systems for monitoring and adjusting HVAC equipment performance.
  • Experience troubleshooting chillers, boilers, or automation systems.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system, or work order system.
  • Experience using basic computer and mobile device skills for communication purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Assess comfort issues, inspect equipment, and make adjustments to correct deficiencies.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, inspecting components, and repairing worn or damaged parts.
  • Use meters and test instruments to measure performance and identify irregular readings.
  • Repair HVAC components including valves, motors, dampers, and fans.
  • Install basic HVAC units such as split systems, window units, and ventilation equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for disposal and recover refrigerants according to EPA regulations.
  • Report in-office during emergencies and office closings as an essential employee.
