About The Position

The HVAC/R Technician will install, maintain and repair the HVAC/R systems throughout the Saint Louis Zoo. As an active member of Facilities Management, this position will support the Zoo’s mission and advocate the Zoo’s core values and three keys.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the technical fields involving the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver’s License is required for residents of Missouri.
  • All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test.
  • As this is a safety-sensitive role, a negative drug test result is mandatory.
  • The drug test screens for five substances, including marijuana.

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC certification, associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Universal Class EPA License preferred.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain OSHA 10/30-Hour Training certification.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, modify and install heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration units and associated equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and routine servicing of equipment including but not limited to greasing and oiling motors, changing and tightening belts, changing filters, and cleaning condensers and evaporators.
  • Utilize the CMMS work order system for work scheduling, preventative maintenance programs and record keeping.
  • Utilize the building automation system to monitor, diagnose and ensure systems are operating at full efficiency.
  • Analyze HVAC/R system requirements, conduct research on new equipment and procedures and recommend new systems or modifications.
  • Provide on-call, weekend or nighttime event coverage if needed.
  • Ensure that proper safety guidelines and usage of PPE are followed at all times.
  • Know and understand the Zoo employee handbook and adhere to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies.
  • Work in close collaboration with all Zoo internal departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
