About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Building Facilities, the HVAC/R Technician is responsible for corrective maintenance, new and renovated installations, and preventive maintenance of all building systems. This role assists all trades within the Facilities Department to provide quality and time-efficient corrective/preventive maintenance, projects, and repairs in an orderly fashion to benefit Woburn Public Schools. The incumbent will provide guidance or supervision to other workers and direct or supervise outside contractors as assigned and needed. The incumbent works under limited supervision and is expected to exercise initiative in anticipating maintenance issues and problems, and must have the ability to set priorities that will confront Woburn Public Schools.

Requirements

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in the heating, ventilation & air conditioning, refrigeration trade.
  • Possess a Valid State Driver's License.
  • Possess a Valid Journeyman’s Massachusetts Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning License.
  • Knowledge and ability to demonstrate techniques of using maintenance tools, repairing machinery, and providing preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy environment.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters License preferred.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate possessing a Massachusetts Journeyman's Electrical /Journeyman's or Plumber's license.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency situations when called upon.
  • Perform corrective action and preventive maintenance regarding all building systems.
  • Troubleshoot heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and perform corrective maintenance in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrate expertise with electrical circuits, distribution, transformers, fuses, motors, relays, magnetic starters, and switches that operate at low and high voltage.
  • Perform tasks associated with a Direct Digital Control Energy Management System, including setbacks, control, trending, overrides, troubleshooting, scheduling, and replacement of parts.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes, and safety requirements.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and be responsible for record-keeping on all filter changes and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in the development of the building preventive maintenance plan and the ongoing updating and implementation of planned preventive maintenance.
  • Assist the Director of Building Facilities regarding reviews of construction documents for both new construction and renovation projects.
  • Perform brazing, soldering, pipefitting, welding, and fabrication of equipment and parts as needed.
  • Identify and correct health and safety issues in a time-efficient manner.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, such as grounds maintenance and snow removal.
