About The Position

As an HVAC Controls Project Manager, you will serve as the on-site technical and project leader for HVAC Building Automation projects. From kickoff to closeout, you’ll guide systems from concept to commissioning while ensuring customers receive reliable, high-performing solutions. You’ll lead the planning, execution, and completion of control systems projects for assigned customers, design system hardware, develop control programming, and oversee installation coordination. You will also direct system and network commissioning, validation, and project closeout, provide guidance to subcontractors, technicians, designers, and installers to ensure quality results, and act as the primary point of contact for customers, keeping communication clear and proactive throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires balancing customer satisfaction with strong financial performance, owning project costs, billings, and collections, and ensuring all work meets state, local, and federal regulations, while operating with the highest ethical and safety standards. You will also identify opportunities for change orders and additional scope, supporting continued project growth.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field plus 4 years of related field experience or 6 years of equivalent hands-on experience in HVAC / Building Automation
  • Strong experience in system design, programming, and commissioning of digital HVAC controls
  • Solid understanding of control theory and building automation systems
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects with confidence
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Proficiency with Windows, Excel, and related applications
  • Working knowledge of project costing, accounting principles, and contracting

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 6+ years of HVAC industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and completion of control systems projects for assigned customers
  • Design system hardware, develop control programming, and oversee installation coordination
  • Direct system and network commissioning, validation, and project closeout
  • Provide guidance to subcontractors, technicians, designers, and installers to ensure quality results
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers, keeping communication clear and proactive throughout the project lifecycle
  • Balance customer satisfaction with strong financial performance, owning project costs, billings, and collections
  • Ensure all work meets state, local, and federal regulations, while operating with the highest ethical and safety standards
  • Identify opportunities for change orders and additional scope, supporting continued project growth
  • Design and program HVAC control systems using established standards
  • Verify complete system functionality and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal performance
  • Lead controller loading, device verification, and commissioning activities
  • Coordinate field device and panel installations to align with design specifications
  • Develop and maintain accurate as-built documentation and commissioning records
  • Evaluate contract scope and manage impacts from schedule changes or client directives
  • Communicate both technical and business updates clearly to customers and internal leadership
  • Forecast project revenue, costs, and margins, and provide regular status updates to management
  • Manage procurement by selecting materials, securing vendor pricing, and overseeing delivery schedules
  • Prepare timely and accurate project billings, ensuring profitability and healthy cash flow
  • Conduct owner/operator system training and deliver complete operation manuals
  • Coach and mentor technicians, designers, installers, and subcontractors
  • Build long-term relationships with customers, contractors, consultants, and vendors
  • Uphold and enforce safety-first practices across all job sites
