About The Position

The Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Mechanic maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment. This role involves maintaining, repairing, assembling, and installing various components of HVAC systems, including condensers, compressors, motors, heat exchangers, heat pumps, stationary boilers, and cooling towers. The position requires assembling and connecting pipes and ducts for refrigerants, steam, hot water, and conditioned air. Additionally, it involves overhauling and repairing pumps, compressors, controls, piping, and other related equipment. Experience with building automation systems is crucial for tasks such as monitoring temperature setpoints, creating schedules, trending system data, calibrating thermostats, and troubleshooting HVAC issues. Familiarity with pneumatic control systems and the operation of water-cooling towers is also necessary. The role utilizes the principles of refrigeration cycles and temperature measurement for repairs and maintenance, and involves working with a variety of refrigeration unit systems. Standard tools, materials, methods, and practices are used in performing the work, with a strong emphasis on occupational safety and health precautions. The position requires organizing assigned work, developing effective methods, and taking necessary safety precautions. Employees are responsible for the care of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies. Computer and electronic equipment are used to fulfill job functions, and participation in in-service programs, workshops, and meetings is expected. The role also includes performing any other duties within the scope of employment as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
5 years experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting HVAC systems.
Experience and/or training with building automation systems.
Must possess a Universal Refrigerant License.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to read blue prints.
Must be able to walk, talk, hear, stoop, drawl, climb stairs and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work indoors or outdoors and be able to evaluate and report on work.
Must have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
Possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills.
Will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.

Responsibilities

Maintain, repair, assemble, and install condensers, compressors, motors, heat exchangers, heat pumps, stationary boilers, cooling towers, and other units of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
Assemble and connect pipes and ducts used in piping refrigerants, steam, hot water, and warm or conditioned air.
Overhaul and repair pumps, compressors, controls, piping, ducts, and other equipment used in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
Set and monitor temperature setpoints, create occupied schedules, trend system data, calibrate thermostats, and troubleshoot HVAC problems using building automation systems.
Check the operation of the water-cooling tower and drains water lines when switching from air conditioning to heating.
Use the principles of refrigeration cycles and temperature measurement in repairing and maintaining air conditioning equipment.
Repair and maintain a variety of refrigeration unit’s systems.
Use standard tools, materials, methods, and practices involved in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
Protect against occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
Organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
Take needed safety precautions in performing the work.
Take care of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
