About The Position

Installs, maintains, services, and repairs environmental-control systems utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout. This role involves hands-on work with various HVAC components and systems, requiring a broad trade knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize performance. The position also includes involvement in the site's predictive maintenance program.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing the specific craft function or certification from a recognized trade school.
  • Broad trade knowledge of mechanical principles on standard shop methods of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade.
  • Experience and/or certification in one or more predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasound, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret and develop technical reports.
  • Able to operate testing equipment for the systems.
  • Able to use all tools and equipment necessary to this trade.
  • Ability to follow standard methods and procedures, and on occasion perform unusual and difficult operations.
  • EPA Certified
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to squat, bend, stoop, and kneel for short periods.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform constant arm extensions.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to compliance requirements imposed by a federal contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a predictive maintenance program is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, service, troubleshooting, and repairs of chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, and hot/chilled water pumps.
  • Operation of systems and examination of equipment to determine needed repairs.
  • Installation of refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning components according to design specifications.
  • Charging refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas and testing for leaks.
  • Starting units and adjusting for proper cut-in and cut-out of refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps.
  • Adjusting systems for optimal performance.
  • Maintaining refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance, determining problems, and repairing, adjusting, or replacing defective elements.
  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
  • Installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of all types of centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air-conditioning systems, as well as all types of pneumatic/electro-mechanical temperature controls.
  • Performing necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment.
  • Performing preventive maintenance.
  • Performing other duties and shift coverage as required.
  • Ensuring EPA certification is maintained.
