The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various systems including air conditioning and refrigeration, hot water heating systems, boilers and steam systems, and all heating systems throughout the hospital and ancillary facilities. This role also involves general maintenance duties, electronic controls of HVAC equipment, and repairs of electrical motors, pumps, and air systems in critical areas. The position monitors air systems dampers and fire control systems related to HVAC, and repairs and maintains kitchen and cafeteria equipment. Additionally, the HVAC Mechanic participates in construction activities, including the installation of HVAC equipment, ductwork, and controls in renovation areas. A key responsibility is performing preventative maintenance (PM) on all HVAC equipment while adhering to Joint Commission requirements, correcting equipment for compliance, and completing Plan for Improvements (PFI). The role involves installing valves, control panels, fans, gauges, and switches, fabricating and installing ductwork and sheet metal items, connecting pipe and refrigeration components, and testing/adjusting gauges and controls for efficient operations. Cross-training in other trades such as Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry is also expected.
