About The Position

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various systems within the hospital and ancillary facilities. This includes air conditioning, refrigeration, heating systems, boilers, steam systems, and electronic controls. The role also involves general maintenance duties, repairs of electrical motors, pumps, and air systems, monitoring air and fire control systems, and maintaining kitchen and cafeteria equipment. Additionally, the HVAC Mechanic participates in construction activities, installs HVAC equipment, ductwork, and controls in renovation areas, performs preventative maintenance to meet Joint Commission requirements, and cross-trains in other trades such as Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry.

Requirements

  • No educational requirement.
  • Two years of technical training or hospital experience required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs air conditioning and refrigeration, hot water heating systems, boilers and steam systems, and all heating systems throughout the hospital and ancillary facilities.
  • Performs general maintenance duties as assigned for the hospital and ancillary facilities.
  • Maintains and repairs electrical motors, pumps, and air systems in all critical areas.
  • Monitors air systems dampers and fire control systems related to HVAC.
  • Repairs and maintains kitchen and cafeteria equipment.
  • Participates in construction activities.
  • Responsible for the installation of all HVAC equipment in renovation areas to include duct work and controls.
  • Performs PM on all HVAC equipment while maintaining Joint Commission requirements by correcting equipment for compliance and completing Plan for Improvements (PFI).
  • Installs valves, control panels, fans, gauges, and switches.
  • Fabricates and installs duct work and sheet metal items.
  • Connects pipe and refrigerate components.
  • Tests and adjusts gauges and controls for more efficient operations.
  • Cross trains to other trades, including Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry.
