About The Position

The City of Bowie is hiring HVAC Mechanics at Level I and Level II to perform skilled work installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems in municipal buildings and facilities. The positions are part of the Building Maintenance Team and also support other trades and building maintenance needs. The HVAC Mechanic I works under limited supervision, handling routine and emergency HVAC repairs, troubleshooting, and safety compliance. The HVAC Mechanic II performs more advanced work, independently or by leading small teams, and helps oversee preventive maintenance and emergency repairs. Both roles contribute to the functionality, comfort, and safety of City buildings and their occupants.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license.
Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program.
For HVAC Mechanic II, five years of commercial HVAC maintenance experience.
For HVAC Mechanic II, significant building maintenance experience involving plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repairs.
For HVAC Mechanic II, OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification.

Nice To Haves

For HVAC Mechanic I, at least one year of hands-on experience in commercial HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair is preferred.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems in municipal facilities.
Perform routine and emergency HVAC repairs while complying with safety standards.
Support other building maintenance trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance; Level II may also support custodial services.
For Level II, work independently or lead small teams on complex HVAC troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance.
For Level II, oversee preventive maintenance and emergency repair operations.
