About The Position

The HVAC Mechanic III performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Install new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Follow blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC)
  • HVAC Mechanical State License
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience.
  • Knowledge of general principles and theories of pressure, vacuum, vaporization, and heat conduction, and safety regulations.
  • Skill in the use of tools required to maintain and repair HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, to work from blueprints and sketches; to maintain proper heating, ventilation, and air conditioning levels; to diagnose malfunctioning units; to maintain records; and to communicate effectively.
  • The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, refurbish, and preventively maintain HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, packaged AC units, and related controls
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, including electronic, pneumatic, and network-connected controls
  • Perform routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, alignment, and adjustments to ensure system efficiency and compliance with codes
  • Balance HVAC systems to optimize airflow and temperature distribution
  • Overhaul and recharge refrigeration systems, following EPA Section 608 certification requirements.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory, recommend purchases, and coordinate material needs
  • Interact with and adjust BMS to monitor and control HVAC operations
  • Respond to 24/7 service calls and critical alarms.
  • Ensure all work meets local, state, and national codes; follow safe tool and equipment handling procedures
  • Other duties as requested.
