The HVAC Mechanic II installs, maintains, and repairs environmental control systems in commercial and industrial facilities. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and servicing chilled water, steam, and high-temperature water systems. The role involves installing compressors, condensers, evaporators, ductwork, and piping systems according to blueprints and specifications. Mechanics also assemble components, cuts and treads pipe, and solders or welds joints to ensure proper refrigerant and airflow circuits. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations. Install and repair hydronic systems. Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment. Uses diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and drawings to perform repairs and maintenance. Install and clean air and water filters. Install and repair low temperature refrigeration systems. Install and program thermostats. Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts. Connect motors, compressors, controls, and fans to control panels, and control panels to power source. Ensures completed work meets quality control standards. Communicate with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates. Must be able to work independently and as a team. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service reports. Communicates directly with customers to assess needs, provide updates, and address inquiries or concerns. Assists with orienting and training new employees. All Other Duties/Projects as Assigned

Requirements

  • Licensed by the State of Virginia as a Master or Journeyman HVAC Mechanic.
  • Type II Technician
  • Minimum of at least 7 years’ experience working on commercial heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems and controls.
  • Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and high man lifts.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Thorough knowledge of Safety procedures and regulations.
  • Must be able to provide customer service in a professional and courteous manner
  • Must have the ability and be willing to work outside of normal working hours such as back shift and weekends, in the event of unplanned outages. If on call, you must be able to respond within one hour.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, crawl, reach, push, pull, and climb.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Ft Lee, Virginia installation clearance and CAC card.
  • Required drug screening, physical, and background check
  • A valid state driver license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by HMG’s insurance company.
  • A HMG application is required (may include a resume).

  • Trane, York, or McQuay factory chiller certified preferred.
