About The Position

This position is HVAC Mechanic I located at the Dan River Prison Work Farm in Blanch, NC. This facility houses approximately 640 minimum, male offenders. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, The HVAC Mechanic I position will perform tasks of installation, operation, preventive maintenance and repair of three facilities heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. May also entail troubleshooting and testing of electrical, digital, and pneumatic controls. Primarily performs preventive maintenance actions as required on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, ice machines, water coolers, water pumps, and air compressors. Instruct lower-level assistants and offenders in performing technical repairs. Will work with minimum custody offenders and have frequent contact with offenders. The individual in this position must be available on a rotating basis for emergency call back. Individual should have some knowledge in the use of a personal computer. Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems.
  • Documented knowledge in reading blueprints, schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • Some knowledge in the use of a personal computer.

Responsibilities
