About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is located at Dan River Prison Work Farm, Caswell, NC. Dan River Prison Work Farm is a minimum-custody prison housing male offenders. The largest inmate population consists of minimum custody offenders. Reporting to Correctional Program Supervisor I, employees in this class are required to complete Domestic Violence Facilitator certification and provide programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with teaching 40 hours of Domestic Violence from approved curriculum.
  • Screen and assign offenders from all minimum custody facilities across the state.
  • Plan and facilitate graduation for offenders after course completion.
  • Maintain case manager responsibilities
  • Developing case plans, answering and following up on offender questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee.
  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation as well as transition planning and coordinating.
  • Planning and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community
