The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance, installation and repair work on HVAC systems, equipment and components. This role also involves installations, repairs and fabrication of sheet metal/metal components related to HVAC and other trades, performed under general supervision using HVAC technology tools and techniques. Decisions are made based on trade practices and supervisor direction, and the mechanic recommends and participates in departmental HVAC operations development, improvement, and implementation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of formal training in the HVAC trade at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
  • 5 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC theory, techniques, codes, procedures and materials.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal installation, repairs and fabrication.
  • Ability to apply HVAC, sheet metal and safety knowledge.
  • Ability to safely use tools and equipment normally used in the HVAC trade and sheet metal trade, including specialized equipment such as precision measuring instruments (dial indicators and calipers), powered portable, bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage information.
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.
  • Ability to identify and avoid hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.
  • Ability to perform work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, installation and repair work on HVAC systems, equipment and components.
  • Perform installations, repairs and fabrication of sheet metal/metal components related to HVAC and other trades.
  • Make decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction as appropriate for the scope of this position.
  • Recommend and participates in departmental HVAC operations development, improvement, and implementation as it relates to current/anticipated workload.
  • Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves routine HVAC equipment problems and component conditions.
  • Read and interpret schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.
  • Follow instructions provided by blueprints, drawings, written materials, work orders and oral instruction.
  • Communicate (written and oral) with supervisor and departmental/JHM staff.
  • Assimilate JHH/departmental mission, policies and procedures as well as specific job safety aspects.
