About The Position

The Field Service Technician I is responsible for providing entry-level field service support for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment at customer locations. This role contributes to organizational objectives by ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently while supporting customer satisfaction and service excellence. The position works under general supervision to perform routine service activities, document service work, and assist customers with operational questions. This role serves as a foundation for developing technical expertise in HVAC systems, field service operations, and customer support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 2+ years of experience in technical service, maintenance, HVAC, industrial equipment repair, or a related field
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage service schedules effectively.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and service reporting.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve routine technical issues and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, team members, and support personnel.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and working around operating equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to use fine and gross motor skills for repairs, diagnostics, and equipment installation.
  • Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling between customer locations.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and varying environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, technical degree, or vocational training in HVAC, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or a related discipline.
  • EPA Certification or HVAC-related certifications.
  • Experience working with HVAC equipment, controls, or refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, startup, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment at customer locations.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues, escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Document service activities, inspections, repairs, parts usage, and customer interactions accurately and completely.
  • Communicate service status, findings, and recommendations to customers in a professional manner.
  • Operate and maintain company tools, equipment, and service vehicles in accordance with company standards.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startup, and operational verification activities.
  • Assist customers with basic equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and customer site requirements.
  • Support warranty and service-related investigations.
  • Coordinate with technical support, engineering, and operations teams to resolve customer issues.
  • Assist with parts identification and ordering to support service activities.
  • Participate in technical and safety training programs to develop field service expertise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
