About The Position

Benedict Sales & Service, Inc., a growing family-owned commercial mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC installation, service, maintenance, and repair, is seeking an experienced HVAC Department Manager to oversee its HVAC operations and team. This role is ideal for a seasoned HVAC professional who thrives on hands-on leadership, tackling complex technical challenges, enhancing field operations, and supporting crew success. The position involves direct leadership of technicians and reports to the President/Owner. The HVAC Department Manager will work independently with regular team collaboration, ensuring customer satisfaction while meeting departmental goals. This role requires a commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and exceptional customer service, contributing to department growth through operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of direct commercial HVAC industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, and troubleshooting
  • Strong installation, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising technicians
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, customers, and management
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction
  • Valid class D driver’s license and commercial insurability required.
  • Highly motivated with a strong drive to accept and lead success and change
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior managerial and diplomacy skills
  • Technical aptitude to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HVAC systems, local codes, and utilize resources to find solutions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, utilize, and train on manuals, schematics, and control circuits related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.

  • Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a high stress, fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Ability to travel between business locations and job sites up to 100% of the time.
  • Ability to work a non-standard schedule including on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership and support to HVAC field technicians
  • Assists technicians with advanced installation, troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair strategies
  • Serves as the primary technical resource for complex commercial HVAC systems
  • Performs daily field operations and technician performance oversight
  • Supports scheduling, workforce planning, and workload management
  • Conducts job-site visits to assist crews and ensure quality workmanship
  • Reviews service documentation, repair recommendations, and completed work orders
  • Develop and implement technical training programs for field personnel
  • Mentor technicians and support career development opportunities
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains technicians as required to meet workload demands, and company or customer expectations and requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with company safety standards and industry best practices
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Works closely with customers to address technical concerns and provide solutions
  • Supports department growth through operational excellence and exceptional customer service
  • Other duties as assigned by authorized personnel
