About The Position

This position is responsible for serving as the overall manager of the HVAC section of maintenance, including commercial refrigeration, natural gas heating systems, low-pressure steam, hot water boilers, chill water systems, and high and pressure cooling systems. The position requires managing installation of new systems, operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing chilled water systems, repairing and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems, replacing/repairing compressed air systems, and repairing pneumatic and electronic digital HVAC controls. The role also involves supporting other skilled trades and performing all other duties as assigned. Additionally, the position requires availability for after-hours call-in when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/equivalent is required
  • Five years of related experience required
  • Current, valid driver’s license is required
  • EPA University Refrigerant license is required
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Solid working knowledge of energy control systems
  • Ability to interpret blueprint specifications, drawings, and schematics
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, visitors, vendors, volunteers, and the general public
  • Knowledge of local contacts in trade to aid in problem solving
  • Knowledge of and skills to operate various HVAC/refrigeration testing and repair equipment
  • Ability to install complete HVAC systems ranging from small residential to large commercial
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of systems analysis and systems evaluation activities
  • Knowledge of related mechanisms and mechanics involved, including machines and tools used
  • Knowledge of building and construction materials, methods, and tools
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
  • Knowledge of computers and electronics involved, including circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, computer hardware/software, and related applications/programming
  • Dependability, attention to detail, cooperation, analytical thinking, initiative, adaptability/flexibility, and leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in air conditioning and refrigeration or a related field, is preferred
  • Journeyman Gas Fitter’s license is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance of HVAC/refrigeration systems
  • Maintain overall responsibility for HVAC operations
  • Respond to temperature and environment management issues as they arise
  • Monitor and control EMS campus-wide
  • Track data, facilitate prioritization efforts from EMS reporting
  • Maintain records of supplies, time, and materials expended
  • Issue work assignments
  • Monitor work performance
  • Coordinate with trades and building schedules
  • Coordinate projects involving outside contractors
  • Monitor inventory
  • Submit estimates
  • Handle refrigerants/oil according to EPA standards/safety
  • Maintain and monitor work space and quality controls
  • Support other skilled trades
  • Manage installation of new systems - HVAC/refrigeration
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and repair chilled water systems
