About The Position

We are currently seeking a skillful and dedicated Humanities Learning Specialist (Special Education Teacher) to join our talented faculty. Situated in the heart of central Brooklyn, Unity is a small, open-enrollment, community-based charter school that proudly serves students in grades 6-12. Requirements

Master's degree with a teaching certification in New York
2+ years of formal teaching experience in New York
Demonstrable skill in accelerating student growth and mastery
Adeptness in differentiating instruction to fully support a diverse range of learners and readiness levels
Ability to plan rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive curricula that align with New York State learning standards
Exhibits a balance of high expectations and high support, a growth mindset, and an innate joy in working with adolescents
Strong interpersonal and classroom management skills with a focus on building productive relationships with students and families
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Skilled in working collaboratively in team settings

Responsibilities

Plan and facilitate standards-aligned, engaging lessons
Differentiate lessons to cater to students' diverse learning styles
Provide remediation such that all students are demonstrably growing
Model and actively build healthy habits and character skills among students through the promotion of Unity's strong and vibrant school culture
Consistently grow and develop own craft as an exceptional educator
Be recognized and celebrated for contributions to the school community through formal career pathways and promotion system
