About The Position

Culver Academies is a private boarding school seeking a humanities instructor to join its professional community. The humanities department offers core interdisciplinary instruction covering ancient to medieval perspectives, European and modern world perspectives, and American perspectives. The department also provides a variety of elective offerings in literature, composition, and social sciences, along with Honors seminars and Advanced Placement options. The teaching approach is inquiry-based, utilizing diverse texts to engage students with major questions and themes. Emphasis is placed on persuasive speaking, convincing writing, and critical thinking. Instructors teach two eighty-minute blocks daily with an average class size of fifteen on an intensive 4x4 block schedule. Collaboration with peers teaching the same course occurs weekly, focusing on content, academic skills, and teaching methodologies. Biweekly department meetings involve collaboration on various initiatives, and all humanities instructors attend monthly meetings as part of a campus-wide interdisciplinary learning community.
