Human Services Program Specialist
About The Position
Protects and promotes the health and safety of Richmond City residents by supporting violence prevention initiatives that reduce community violence through education, outreach, collaboration, and evidence-based prevention strategies. This is accomplished by planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating violence prevention programs; conducting community outreach and engagement; developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders; connecting individuals and communities to available resources; and supporting violence prevention events and public health initiatives. Provides support for the Richmond and Henrico Health District's Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) by advancing violence prevention priorities through program planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement. Assists with identifying community needs, monitoring program activities and outcomes, maintaining program records and reports, and ensuring activities are conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, grant requirements, and agency priorities. Serves as a resource on violence prevention by providing education, technical assistance, and outreach to community partners, organizations, and residents. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, increase community engagement, and implement sustainable strategies that address the root causes of violence, reduce health disparities, and improve community safety and well-being. Provides support to the Health District and participates in additional public health initiatives, emergency response activities, and other duties as assigned to support the agency's mission.
Requirements
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices related to violence prevention, community engagement, health promotion, and prevention programming.
- Experience planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs, projects, or public health initiatives.
- Experience developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, governmental agencies, or other stakeholders to achieve program goals.
- Experience collecting, maintaining, and analyzing program data; preparing reports; maintaining accurate documentation; and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, grant requirements, or program standards.
- Experience identifying community needs, analyzing complex issues, recommending solutions, and supporting continuous quality improvement through program planning and evaluation.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in public health, violence prevention, injury prevention, community health, behavioral health, youth development, or related human services programs.
- Experience coordinating or supporting grant-funded programs, including grant reporting, performance measure tracking, and program evaluation.
- Experience using Community Health Assessments (CHA), Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIP), or other population health data to inform program planning and decision-making.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
