About The Position

The Hawaii State Department of Education is hiring Human Services Professionals to serve students at various schools within the Kauai District as assigned by the Kauai District Office. The authorized level is Human Services Professional IV, but applications are also accepted for levels I through III if recruiting for the higher level proves difficult. Human Services Professionals work to improve people’s quality of life by helping address and prevent problems and by improving access to, accountability of, and coordination among service providers. They build relationships of mutual respect and trust with clients and use helping interventions to support clients’ effective functioning. In this school-based role, responsibilities include servicing students’ IEPs through parent education and training, leading and directing paraprofessionals, coordinating cases with multidisciplinary teams, providing autism-specific training such as applied behavior analysis, and consulting and collaborating with students’ families and school teams. At Level IV, positions are distinguished by the complexity of assigned cases and the authority exercised by the worker. The minimum education requirement is a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, including at least 12 semester credit hours in counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or another behavioral science. Applicants must also meet the applicable experience requirements for the level sought. Some positions require a current, valid driver’s license. Monthly salary ranges are: Human Services Professional I, $4,368–$5,314; II, $4,725–$5,753; III, $5,107–$6,221; and IV, $5,527–$6,728. New external applicants are generally placed at the initial salary step; placement above that step requires consideration of specified factors and prior approval. Salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school-year differentials, if applicable. The posting describes possible temporary positions, which may be extended year to year depending on funding and departmental needs.
