About The Position

With opportunities spanning Levels I–IV, this position offers room to grow, develop your expertise, and take on greater responsibility as your skills and experience advance. This position will enforce the City's codes and ordinances relating to new construction, remodels, additions, repairs, plan reviews, and related activities. Perform investigations of non-permitted work and contact property owners and contractors to resolve issues in the field. Employees must be able to operate independently and in group settings and possess the knowledge and skills necessary to make code interpretations in the field that are consistent with established policies and procedures. Employees are required to thoroughly document the conclusions of inspections and investigations in the City's permit and complaint tracking software.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
  • Two years of experience in Code Enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and related field experience (for Inspector I/II).
  • Three years of experience in a paraprofessional municipality related role (for Inspector III).
  • Five years experience in a paraprofessional municipality related role (for Inspector IV).
  • State Code Enforcement Officer Certification or ability to attain within one year.
  • Texas State Plumbing Inspectors License (for Inspector III and IV).
  • Certification in one of the following Commercial or Residential Codes: Building Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Fuel Gas Energy Conservation (for Inspector I/II and III).
  • ICC Certification as a Combination Commercial or Residential Inspector (for Inspector IV).

Nice To Haves

  • State Code Enforcement Officer Certification (for Inspector I/II).
  • Texas State Plumbing Inspectors License or the ability to attain within two years (for Inspector I/II).
  • Certification in three of the Commercial and/or Residential codes listed above (for Inspector III).
  • ICC Combination Inspector (for Inspector IV).
  • State Code Enforcement Officer Registration, Texas Department of Health (for Inspector IV).

Responsibilities

  • Inputs inspection and complaint results into the permit tracking software and generates letters to communicate deficiencies to owners, designers, and contractors.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for compliance with adopted federal, state, and local codes.
  • Conducts on-site inspections of construction projects, including multi-family and manufactured home/recreational vehicle parks.
  • Effectively communicates with the general public, other regulatory agencies, architects, engineers, contractors, and other City departments regarding projects or complaints.
  • May include meetings with applicants, contractors, agents, City departments, peers, and supervisors.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
