About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity for Human Services students to gain practical experience in a day school setting. Interns will be involved in providing individual and group counseling, leading classroom guidance activities, consulting with parents, registering new students, and assisting with academic planning and credit evaluation. The role emphasizes learning about service systems and developing critical thinking skills related to social work.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Masters level students in an approved university internship program
• Good driving record
• Valid car insurance
• Proper clearances (State, FBI and Child Line Clearances – depending on location)
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner with a variety of youth
• Ability to establish a rapport with youth, while maintaining appropriate boundaries
• Ability to communicate & work with a multi-faceted team of professionals
• Ability to utilize and understand cross-system designs

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with youth
• Crisis intervention experience
• General knowledge of issues facing at-risk youth (i.e. drug/alcohol, gangs, etc.)
• Good communication skills - both oral and written

Responsibilities
