This position is located in the Division of Resource Families and Licensing within the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. The primary responsibility is to perform fire safety inspections to ensure compliance with fire safety standards in state and federal codes, laws, regulations, and policies, specifically for child care facilities. The role involves inspecting foster homes, group homes, and day care homes to ensure they meet established standards and laws regarding construction, use, occupancy, and maintenance. The inspector will examine fire protective equipment, heating units, exit lights, doors, fire escapes, window grills, and structural aspects for potential fire hazards. Additionally, the position requires investigating complaints, preparing detailed reports on deficiencies and violations, enforcing correction timeframes, and re-inspecting to ensure compliance. The inspector will also consult and recommend necessary improvements and may be required to testify in hearings and court regarding fire safety standards.
