About The Position

This position involves investigative and protective services work focused on locating non-custodial parents, establishing, enforcing, and collecting child support obligations, and establishing paternity for children born out of wedlock. The role includes initiating administrative collection actions and appropriate court actions, as well as representing the Department's interests in Maine District Court regarding child support matters. The position is located in Lewiston and allows for partial telework after an initial training period, subject to management approval and operational needs. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people, providing health and social services to a significant portion of the state's population. The Office for Family Independence, Division of Support Enforcement & Recovery (DSER) is responsible for ensuring non-custodial parents contribute to their children's financial support.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Business or Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Directly related paraprofessional or higher level experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Applicants are subject to pre-employment screening including verification of minimum qualifications, application information, employment history, and references.
  • Conditional offers are made to selected candidates who must successfully complete a pre-employment, fingerprint-based criminal history record check.
