About The Position

This position is located in the CARE Center, Adult Services Section, specifically within the CARE Center Family Violence Program. The role involves providing immediate and intensive intervention to prevent death, irreparable harm, or continuation of abuse, neglect, or exploitation within families. The primary purpose is to offer comprehensive domestic violence counseling to clients and their families in volatile situations, developing case plans with realistic outcomes, and identifying necessary services such as childcare, transportation, health support, housing, and community resource utilization. The position also serves as a facilitator for women's and children's support groups and evening classes for the RESOLVE Batterer's Treatment Program. Additionally, the role requires acting as a public relations representative for presentations and potentially working at the shelter in the absence of staff. Teamwork is essential, and the employee must perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of counseling/therapy experience in areas such as rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, marriage and family therapy, child life program, or related human services field that provides the experience in techniques of counseling and therapeutic assessments, one of which must have been supervised.
OR Bachelor's degree in a human service field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related human service counseling or therapy experience which provides the above experience, one of which must have been supervised.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to evaluate and screen clients for appropriate treatment.
Ability to formulate clear goal-oriented treatment plans.
Ability to document progress of clients.
Ability to establish rapport with clients.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative supervisors, clients and their families, care providers, and various community organizations.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Must be able to act as a public relations representative when delivering presentations.
Must be able to work as a team.
Must be able to assist in emergency and/or disaster situations.
Must adhere to the Cumberland County Department of Social Services dress code policy.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
Must pass a drug test.
Must pass a law enforcement background check.

Nice To Haves

Additional training in the dynamics of domestic violence and domestic law is desired.

Responsibilities

Provide individual domestic violence counseling.
Conduct specialized educational groups.
