About The Position

New Hanover County is seeking a customer-oriented Human Services Caseworker, Senior to join our Social Services Department. The Human Services Caseworker, Senior provides support, technical training, and expertise to staff who determine eligibility across all Economic Services program areas. Some positions work to maintain the integrity of public assistance programs by detecting and protecting from fraud, abuse, and overpayment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Two (2) years of experience working as a caseworker in an economic services program administered at NHC.
  • Must be available to work during emergency situations.

  • Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts reviews of case actions taken by new and seasoned caseworkers, according to departmental procedures.
  • Remains abreast of policy changes and assists with communicating changes and recommending training areas needed.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for multiple programs; advises caseworkers on policy interpretation and helps resolve problem cases.
  • Compiles and enters data into appropriate computer databases.
  • Provides technical support by troubleshooting cases in NC Fast for all programs to help resolve case errors; creates ticket with State by phone or portal when unable to resolve case errors; and serves as a point of contact for the NC Fast state program.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to employees and supervisors regarding performance and makes recommendations on identified areas of improvement needed.
  • Researches and completes merge report for duplicate CNDS identification numbers in the NC Fast system.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of performance improvement and corrective action plans.
  • Maintains manuals documenting policy, practices, and SOPs.
  • Performs analysis of data and creates reports on training and regulatory compliance used in performance evaluations.
  • Stays abreast of policy and changes and assists in the communication of process changes that may result.
  • Assists in processing cases during times of high volume.
  • Assists with special projects associated with agency priorities as identified.
  • Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
