The Alberta Human Rights Commission works with Albertans to promote awareness of, and appreciation for, human rights and diversity. Its overall goal is to develop inclusive communities in which all Albertans can participate in the social, economic, and cultural life of the province without discrimination. The Alberta Human Rights Act establishes the Alberta Human Rights Commission to carry out functions under the Act. The Commission is an independent Commission created by the Government of Alberta. The Commission has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and to reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through public education and community initiatives, resolution and settlement of complaints of discrimination, and human rights tribunal hearings. In this role, you will manage a caseload of human rights complaints that have not been resolved through earlier processes and have been referred for a Director’s decision under the Act. You will perform an impartial investigative function by gathering and assessing information from parties to complaints, interpreting and applying the Act, case law, legal principles, policy, and principles of natural justice, and preparing draft decisions for review and approval by the Director of the Commission. This role is well suited to someone who can work through complex and sensitive information, identify key legal and factual issues, and translate detailed analysis into concise, defensible written materials that support fair decision-making.
