About The Position

The HR Specialist is responsible for supporting human resource functions, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, and providing guidance to employees and managers. This role encompasses recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, training, and record-keeping. The HR Specialist collaborates with various departments to maintain a positive and productive workplace while ensuring adherence to organizational goals and applicable laws.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of human resources operations, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and tribal employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, FLSA, and EEO compliance.
  • Familiarity with HR management software such as Pay Com or similar platforms for recruitment, payroll, and benefits management.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and report generation to support informed decision-making in HR processes.
  • Knowledge of market trends and compensation strategies to support competitive pay structures and benefit offerings.
  • Skill in identifying process improvement opportunities and recommending practical solutions that reflect organizational and tribal objectives.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness, ensuring analyses and recommendations align with tribal values and community priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate HR data, identify trends, and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees, managers, and stakeholders.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS platforms.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive situations and capability to handle employee information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Capacity to engage and align HR practices with the cultural and community-oriented values of the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in a human resource analyst or similar data-driven role.
  • Proficiency in HR information systems (e.g., Pay Com or similar platforms) and data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Analytics, or a related advanced field of study.
  • HR certification such as Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, fuels, or a closely related industry, particularly within a tribal or community-focused organization.
  • Knowledge of tribal governance and cultural values.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and Onboarding: Post job openings in Pay Com and other recruitment platforms.
  • Screen applications, coordinate interviews, and assist hiring managers in the selection process.
  • Manage onboarding processes, including new hire paperwork and benefits enrollment.
  • Employee Relations: Provide guidance to employees regarding company policies, benefits, and HR processes.
  • Address employee concerns in coordination with HR management.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Risk Management / Benefits team.
  • Compliance and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records in the Pay Com system, including UST and food safety training documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, training requirements, and company policies.
  • Training and Development: Coordinate employee training programs including new employee orientation, food handler certifications and UST Class C Trainings.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to promote career growth and employee retention.
  • HR Support: Assist managers with job requisitions and employee changes in Pay Com.
  • Support payroll and timecard inquiries.
