About The Position

The Human Resources Specialist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources department by assisting with compliance, HR processing, reporting, data reconciliation, and administrative functions. This position helps ensure HR procedures align with institutional, state, and federal regulations while supporting efficient and accurate HR operations. The specialist assists with compliance reviews and audits, HRIS testing and upgrades, personnel processing, onboarding activities, and reconciliation of HR and payroll-related data. The position also serves as a resource for employees and departments regarding HR policies, procedures, and system processes, including Banner HR, EPAFs, and onboarding systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible professional experience in human resources, payroll, benefits administration, employment processing, human resources operations, or related business operations.
  • Experience processing employment actions such as new hires, job changes, compensation transactions, and personnel changes in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Experience auditing human resources, payroll or closely related records, transactions, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Experience generating, analyzing, validating, and reconciling reports using databases, spreadsheets, or reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, compliance requirements, and human resources policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, professionalism, and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience providing guidance to employees, supervisors, and departments regarding human resources procedures and processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reconciliation, data validation, formula development, analysis, and reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a higher education or public sector setting.
  • Knowledge of state-specific HR systems and processes (e.g., DHRM, CIPPS).
  • Experience supporting or conducting system testing for HR/payroll systems.
  • Understanding of adjunct, overload, and faculty compensation practices.
