About The Position

As part of Chancellor Haefner’s vision to create an innovative 4-Dimensional student experience on campus, the University of Denver is investing in growth and realignment of the Student Employment office to offer enhanced service to both students and their supervisors. The Human Resources Partner (HR) helps build this innovative Student Employment initiative by supporting the student employment lifecycle, emphasizing meaningful learning opportunities for student employees. The HR Partner analyzes trends and develops workforce plans to resolve issues to make a positive impact on business results. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Employment within Career & Professional Development, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of Employee/Labor Relations in Human Resources and Inclusive Community (HRIC). This position is funded through an internally funded two-year innovation grant, after which time there will be a review of programmatic outcomes to assess permanent position funding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equal years of experience/education in human resources.
  • 2 years of experience working in a human resource generalist or human resource business partner capacity.
  • Experience analyzing Human Resources trends and metrics in developing solutions, programs, and policies.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
  • Working knowledge and application of employment laws including but not limited to related to EEO, FLSA, FMLA, etc.
  • Solid presentation skills to deliver effective programs related to human resource initiatives, programs, and updates to all levels of employees and management including online presentations.
  • Consulting skills and application of effective organization design, workforce planning, recruiting, selection, on-boarding, performance management, employee relations and delivering learning programs.
  • Coordination of completion and maintenance of projects on time and within scope.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain good working relationships both inside and outside of the division.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, and across teams with a focus on service orientation.
  • Customer-focused orientation with a high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion including the understanding and appreciation for cultural differences that impact the student and supervisor experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous higher education work experience, or exposure to higher education or experience working in a complex matrixed organization.
  • Certification in Human Resource Management from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), or Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources or equivalent field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and implement projects in collaboration with the Office of Student Employment to meet the needs of and enhance the student employment experience. Projects include onboarding, gathering compensation reviews with key campus partners, aligning hiring process for all student employee funding sources, operationalizing performance evaluations, and others as needed.
  • Provide employee relations counseling and guidance to student employees and supervisors across divisions in conjunction with and advisement from the central Human Resources Partnerships office. Maintain a close working partnership with the HR Partner for Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence specifically.
  • Provide support and serve as liaison between Office of Student Employment and HRIC by understanding divisional goals of each, suggesting alignment as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation to divisional leadership on HR related items to talent management including workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding and other HR functions as necessary.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Employment and advisement from HRIC, provides day-to-day performance management guidance and counsel to student employee supervisors to ensure consistent application of the institution’s performance management guidelines.
  • Act as a strategic partner for the Office of Student Employment, Financial Aid and Office of Graduate Education, to provide cross-divisional guidance as it relates to human resources policies, federal work-study, graduate assistant guidelines to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal labor and employment law.
  • Identify and respond to compliance issues.
  • Support the review and approval of job postings in the internship & job database for students, PCO.
  • Coordinate HR functions by balancing the needs of student employment with the strategic goals of the institution and HRIC.
  • Assist the Office of Student Employment and divisional leadership in identifying training needs and presenting to staff & student employees on comprehensive policies and processes to include recruiting, on-boarding and other HR functions as necessary.
  • Deliver and design trainings related to human resources topics as needed.
  • Ensure HR-related content for New Student Employee Orientation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Participate on the Student Employment Task Force that guides the direction of the office to ensure comprehensive organizational success and coordination.
  • Work with the Office of Student Employment and campus partners to remedy process inefficiencies and missed opportunities for successful outcomes.
  • Partner closely with divisional leadership, managers, supervisors, and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and employee retention.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
