About The Position

The Human Resources Manager will lead the on-site Human Resources team at the assigned Plant location and work with Corporate Human Resources to ensure compliance with UGN policies and procedures that support equitable and consistent development and treatment of Team Members. The Human Resources Manager will administer and monitor policies relating to all HR functional areas as well as Safety. The role will supervise the HR Generalist and HR Assistant at this location. This is an on-site, 5 days/week role and is based in our Valparaiso, IN, facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working in Human Resources, with at least 2 years in a Management role preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to work well across different functions to develop and integrate HR and business strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; high-quality document preparation and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated a high level of ownership and accountability.
  • Strong employee relations/interpersonal communication skills with all levels.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where quick decision-making skills are required.
  • Ability to prioritize/juggle multiple responsibilities and problem-solve.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Manufacturing Environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading safety and knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advisor to the Plant Manager regarding strategic decision-making surrounding succession planning, budgeting, etc. by providing insight, coaching and HR related solutions to business challenges.
  • Maintain a physical presence in the plant for in-person meetings with Team Members and to address in-person Team Member feedback. Routinely walk the production floor to answer Team Member questions or address concerns.
  • Manage a staff of professionals within the plant. Respond to escalated issues from the team. Conduct performance reviews and provide training and coaching.
  • Lead plant safety and OSHA compliance by managing documentation, audits, training, and incident prevention programs to minimize risk and lost time while ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, monthly plant communications meetings and all Team Member involvement programs.
  • Maintain Business Partner relationships with corporate HR and plant management.
  • Advise management on appropriate resolution regarding performance improvement counseling and development of supervisor-level roles.
  • Assist managers and shift coordinators with Team Member concerns, disciplinary issues, and interpretation of company policies.
  • Investigate complaints and grievances regarding Team Member relations and escalate complaints. Suggest consistent recommendations for solutions that align with UGN values.
  • Administer performance review and salary administration programs to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within the organization.
  • Maintain Team Member relations in accordance with UGN's goal to remain non-union; manage anti-union campaigns.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local labor laws. Manage consistent and equitable UGN policies and procedures.
  • Directly manage and continuously develop Team Members in the HR Department.
  • Prepare reports and recommend procedures to meet KPIs.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and present training as required for hourly and managerial positions.
  • Allow an open-door forum for Team Members to voice their concerns, questions, or complaints.
  • Advise Team Members on matters affecting their employment.
  • Ensure records of Team Members’ transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance and terminations are accurate and properly maintained.
  • Recruit, interview and select Team Members to fill vacant management positions in the plant facility.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
