About The Position

The Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD or District) is a California Special District responsible for managing and protecting local groundwater resources for over 4 million residents. As a local government agency, WRD ensures that a reliable supply of high-quality groundwater is available through the use of stormwater capture and recycled water. WRD is seeking a motivated Human Resources Intern to join its Administration/Human Resources Department. Under the direction of the Human Resources team, the intern will gain hands-on experience in a variety of human resources functions while supporting the District's annual High School Summer Intensive Program. This internship offers valuable exposure to public sector human resources, recruitment, employee engagement, and workforce development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills and demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university or be a recent college graduate (within six months) with a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Successful completion of a physical and a background check.
  • Must provide a copy of current college transcript.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment activities, including scheduling interviews and communicating with candidates for internship opportunities.
  • Assist with classification and compensation projects and conducting HR research under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and training events.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating Human Resources policies, procedures, forms, and other departmental resources.
  • Provide administrative support for Human Resources projects while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Assist with meeting coordination, including preparing agendas, sending calendar invitations, taking meeting minutes, following up on action items, ordering refreshments, and assisting with meeting setup and cleanup.
  • Update and maintain departmental contact databases, spreadsheets, and other records under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Support special events, including the District's High School Summer Intensive Program, by assisting with event planning, coordinating participants, collecting required paperwork, attending off-site field trips, and providing logistical support before, during, and after the program.
  • Assist with preparing, organizing, and maintaining files, records, and documents.
  • Assist with preparing reports, presentations, correspondence, and other Human Resources materials.
  • Support Human Resources staff at career fairs, recruitment events, and other community outreach activities, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.
