About The Position

We’re a 90-person auto insurance carrier doing $80 million in annual revenue. We take insurance seriously, we take our people seriously, and we absolutely do not take ourselves too seriously. We own our wins, own our mistakes, and move forward without drama. This role is the HR department's fearless leader, managing one HR Generalist and a contract recruiter, and reporting directly to the COO. You will be responsible for ensuring our employees are hired well, treated fairly, developed thoughtfully, and know where to find HR information. This is a hands-on role where you will build and fix things, and be a calm presence in stressful situations. If you like variety and hate being bored, you’ll fit right in.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of progressive HR experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading people.
  • Solid knowledge of employment law, particularly in Florida.
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills for various situations.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, payroll software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • A personal dedication to merit-based performance management.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree or HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR).
  • Experience in insurance or a regulated industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with company goals, including workforce planning, engagement, and retention.
  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and conduct sensitive conversations to ensure employees feel heard and treated fairly.
  • Oversee the recruiting process, including job postings, sourcing, interviews, and onboarding, to ensure new hires feel welcome.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC) and maintain accurate records.
  • Administer benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement, wellness) and ensure compensation structures remain competitive.
  • Drive performance management processes and design development programs to support employee growth and career paths.
  • Build and maintain HR policies and the employee handbook.
  • Mentor and support the HR Generalist and contract recruiter.
