About The Position

The HR Generalist supports the YMCA of Metro North’s mission by providing day-to-day HR support across all branches. Reporting to the Chief Strategy & People Officer, this role helps ensure consistent HR practices, compliance, employee engagement, and a positive workplace culture throughout the organization. This is an in-person position requiring regular travel to YMCA branch and program sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2–4 years of HR experience
  • Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel between branch locations

Nice To Haves

  • Nonprofit or multi-site HR experience
  • Familiarity with ADP or other HRIS systems
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification

Responsibilities

  • Support employee relations, engagement, and workplace culture aligned with YMCA values
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and new hire orientation
  • Maintain employee records, HRIS data, compliance documentation, and HR reporting
  • Partner with Benefits & Payroll on benefits administration, payroll support, and employee inquiries
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, background checks, and YMCA safety standards
  • Coordinate required trainings and track certifications
