About The Position

The Hands On Children’s Museum is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join their team. This full-time, non-exempt position is responsible for managing various HR functions, including recruiting, employee relations, compliance, payroll, and benefits administration. The ideal candidate will have a people-first mindset, strong communication skills, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to creating a positive and engaging workplace culture. The museum is a nationally known family learning destination focused on stimulating curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through interactive learning experiences, with a commitment to serving underserved populations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or an HR certification (SHRM-CP/PHR).
  • 3+ years of HR experience.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP).
  • Excellent communication skills and a people-first mindset.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
  • Proactive, organized, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to sit for long periods and complete work at a desk.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding policies, benefits, and payroll.
  • Support managers with employee relations, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Contribute to building a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.
  • Manage the full recruitment cycle, including posting jobs, screening candidates, and coordinating interviews.
  • Lead onboarding and orientation processes to ensure new hires feel welcomed.
  • Support smooth offboarding experiences for departing employees.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll.
  • Maintain HRIS systems and ensure accurate employee records.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable HR laws and regulations.
  • Manage employee leave programs, including FMLA and WA PFML.
  • Oversee benefits enrollment and coordinate with vendors.
  • Manage the Open Enrollment process for employee benefits.
  • Support employee recognition programs and staff communications.
  • Track required training and coordinate relevant sessions.
  • Help ensure employees have the necessary tools for success.
  • Assist in planning all-staff meetings.
  • Participate in and help lead the FUN Committee.
  • Foster engagement across the museum team.
