About The Position

This role involves consulting with assigned client groups, including frontline employees and people leaders, on a variety of HR issues such as recruiting, employee relations, benefits and compensation, learning & development, career development, succession planning, and performance management. The position requires participation in regular meetings with client groups to stay current with business units and provide HR support for upcoming initiatives. The Generalist will also provide updates, information, and advice on policy interpretation, stay current on provincial employment standards and human rights legislation, evaluate current policies, and conduct research on best practices. Data collection, report preparation, analysis, and management for the Human Resources Department are key responsibilities, along with assisting in the research, planning, and execution of HR initiatives and special projects.

Requirements

  • Business degree/college diploma with a Human Resources specialization or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Three years of progressive human resources experience.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Balanced approach to problem solving.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to adapt to individuals across all levels of the organization and situations.
  • Initiative to solve problems in a creative and balanced manner.
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • General knowledge of human resources programs and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with frontline employees and people leaders on HR issues including recruiting, employee relations, benefits, compensation, learning & development, career development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Participate in regular meetings with client groups to provide HR support and direction on initiatives.
  • Present HR information at monthly Manager meetings.
  • Advise employees and people leaders on policy and program interpretation.
  • Stay current on provincial employment standards and human rights legislation.
  • Evaluate current policies, recommend changes, and research policy best practices.
  • Conduct research on competitor HR practices.
  • Develop and implement approved policy updates and new policies.
  • Collect, prepare, analyze, and manage data for the Human Resources Department.
  • Assist with the research, planning, and execution of HR initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Provide advice and support to people leaders regarding recruiting issues and procedures.
  • Attend or host career fairs to support recruiting efforts.
  • Assist with the preparation and updating of job descriptions.
  • Develop and coordinate internal/external recruiting advertisements.
  • Liaise with external advertising sources for job postings.
  • Review and shortlist resumes.
  • Organize and participate in interview panels.
  • Assist with or conduct pre-screening and reference checks.
  • Develop interview guides and assist with offer generation.
  • Ensure the recruitment process is efficient and timely.
  • Assist with the preparation of offer letters, welcome packages, police check processes, and personnel files.
  • Conduct employee orientation sessions and coordinate with relevant parties for complete orientation.
  • Advise people leaders on starting salaries, merit increases, and promotional increases.
  • Liaise with carrier disability specialists, employees, and people leaders on ongoing claims.
  • Facilitate return-to-work programs and monitor potential STD and LTD claims.
  • Administer compensation surveys and research competitive compensation data.
  • Administer the Employee Recognition Program, including validation, distribution of awards, and communication.
  • Ensure compliance with the MNP Community & Sport Centre code of conduct, employment legislation, human rights legislation, and HR policies.
  • Conduct workplace harassment and other investigations.
  • Support people leaders and the HR Director with escalated and legal employment matters.
  • Guide and coach people leaders on performance management programs, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and termination processes.
  • Prepare paperwork and act as HR representative in termination meetings.
  • Assist the HR Director with identifying training needs and recommending solutions.
  • Facilitate training sessions and programs for people leaders.
  • Assist with the coordination and preparation for training events.
  • Conduct exit interviews for all employee-initiated departures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete personnel records.
  • Act as backup to the Payroll & Benefits Administrator in their absence.
  • Train as a Safety Warden and rotate through scheduled duties.
  • Attend local HR training sessions and HR round table meetings.
  • Assist the Director with annual HR budget planning and adherence.
  • Assist with HRIS and administration duties.
  • Flex schedule as the needs of the organization require.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
