About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, as HR Generalist, through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the business objectives of the Company, will provide the support and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper Human Resource controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operational efficiency. As the HR Generalist, this individual has responsibility in the areas of employee and labour relations, diversity, health and safety, worker’s compensation, training & development and policy program implementation and management among other human resource activities. The position involves developing and fostering relationships with senior management, operational managers, salaried and hourly employees as well as external agencies and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources field.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive hands-on working experience in an HR role.
  • Knowledge of Jonas, ADP Workforce Now, and/or SiteDocs considered an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge/understanding of Employment Standards Act, Canada Labour Code and the Canadian Human Rights Act.
  • Strong skills in employment relations; knowledge and/or experience with health and safety is preferred.
  • Detail oriented and able to handle confidential information of the highest level.
  • Superior customer service skills in a professional, courteous, friendly and polished manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management, planning, decision making, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Software; previous database experience preferred.
  • Self-starter, who is highly motivated, has a strong customer focus and proven ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws and policies.
  • Provide resolutions to employee relation issues (e.g., employee & labour relations matters and allegations).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of change management.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Presentation skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • CHRP designation (or in progress) is preferred.
  • Experience in the Construction Industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of Jonas, ADP Workforce Now, and/or SiteDocs considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers and leaders to identify, establish, and execute HR strategies and initiatives; establish trusted relationships with employees and managers.
  • Support business goals, strengthen organizational effectiveness, impact performance, retention, employee engagement, and promote the development of employees and managers.
  • Actively engage with all levels of employees to create and sustain a solid relationship network, maintain a reliable pulse on organization dynamics and behaviors that affect employee engagement and business goals.
  • Proactively recommend actions to management where concerns may arise, or patterns of employee issues could emerge.
  • Partner with Divisions in the planning and execution of initiatives; leverage the subject matter expertise of leaders to identify areas of opportunity within the business.
  • Plan and execute projects with on-time delivery, measurable outcomes and impact; participate in project communication/change management.
  • Drive HR events such as annual review, compensation, and policy related implementations.
  • Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee as a certified member and lead workplace inspections for the office.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to the manager and employees regarding health and safety practices, and policy interpretation.
  • Coordinate disability claims (short-term/long-term).
  • Provide support to project sites related to H&S inquiries and documentation requests.
  • Prepare H&S documentation and programs for new projects.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of Health & Safety program and policy training and monitor compliance, including the Learning Management System.
  • Coordinate and track Health and Safety training and administration for sites.
  • Assist with Health and Safety Program review.
  • Participate in Safety Association Programs that create value for the Company and fulfill requirements of the programs (i.e., Safety Groups, COR).
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining H&S supplies stock and inventory.
  • Provide employee relations support including policy implementation, interpretation and enforcement; conduct employee investigations and partner with Employee Relations where needed; swiftly resolve disputes and find solutions to problems.
  • Provide general information, support and assistance to employees internally and externally over the phone, electronically and in person.
  • Communicate to internal stakeholders in Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations.
  • Provide resolutions to employee relation issues (e.g., employee complaints and harassment allegations).
  • Maintain a sustainable relationship with union officials and ensure adherence to wages, working hours and other regulations.
  • Assist with the management of union inquiries with the goal of collaboration to avoid formal grievances being filed.
  • Liaise with the IBEW where needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining employee files including updating personal information and processing addendums.
  • Assist with recruitment initiatives for corporate staff.
  • Responsible for sourcing, selecting and hiring process of candidates.
  • Any onboarding and offboarding requirements related to field recruitment.
  • Assist with recruitment initiatives for field services staff including placing calls to the union hall as required.
  • Responsible for sourcing, selecting, and hiring process of sponsorship candidates, ensuring all qualification criteria is met.
  • Any onboarding and offboarding requirements related to field recruitment.
  • Liaising with the Electrical Training Alliance Apprenticeship regarding apprentices.
  • Assist with development, implementation and interpretation of HR policies, programs and procedures as required; provide recommendations related to policies and procedures.
  • Conduct and provide research as required.
  • Assist management in the enforcement of consistency in application of policies.
  • Ensure company policies comply with federal and provincial legislation.
  • Organize, maintain and assist with communication of all HR policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Plan administration for the Group Health Benefits and RRSP Programs.
  • Provide ad hoc reports to the Manager, Human Resources on all field related data (site safety, training, claim’s management, etc.).
  • Communicate to internal stakeholders in Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations.
  • Recommend, develop and maintain human resource data bases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
  • All other duties as assigned to meet Company objectives.
