About The Position

The HR Generalist is responsible for maintaining a compliant and supportive work environment by overseeing labor law adherence, workplace investigations, and the development of internal policies and job descriptions. This role manages complex employee support systems, including FMLA, disability accommodations, workers' compensation claims, and specialized benefit programs like the Travel Reduction Program. By facilitating the performance review process and leading employee engagement initiatives, the Generalist plays a key role in driving organizational growth and fostering a positive workplace culture. Success in this role is defined by your ability to be a strategic anchor for the HR department, ensuring that the foundational elements of the employee experience are governed with precision and expert judgment. You provide the oversight and expertise for the "moments that matter"—from guiding a complex interactive process for a leave of absence to serving as the final approval authority for life events in PlanSource. Your impact is felt through your ability to resolve high-stakes issues and make complex regulatory requirements feel seamless for our staff. Beyond technical tasks, you are a champion for our culture. You lead the strategy behind our employee engagement efforts, such as the fall festival and volunteer opportunities, ensuring they easily foster community. You balance the sensitive nature of workplace investigations with high-energy community building, acting as a trusted consultant for the entire team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Human Resources role, with experience on investigating employee complaints, resolving workplace issues, and managing labor law compliance.
  • Experience managing the interactive process for FMLA, disability accommodations (ADA), and leaves of absence, as well as handling workers' compensation claims
  • Demonstrated proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration, specifically in managing life event changes, supporting enrollment cycles, and overseeing specialized programs like TRP or student loan assistance.
  • Experience in drafting and maintaining technical HR documentation, including job descriptions, employee handbooks, and performance review materials.
  • Successful track record of organizing large-scale employee engagement activities, such as company festivals and volunteer programs, to support a positive organizational culture.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state labor laws, including FMLA, ADA, and workers' compensation regulations.
  • Familiarity of HR compliance standards, including OSHA and BLS reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with benefits administration frameworks and the mechanics of performance review cycles and job description development.
  • Strong investigative and conflict-resolution skills to address employee complaints and workplace issues.
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms and benefits enrollment systems (such as PlanSource) for accurate data management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills for coordinating large-scale employee engagement events and managing multiple specialized programs simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with extreme discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to translate complex policy requirements into clear, actionable company-wide communications.
  • Ability to maintain high attention to detail while managing repetitive administrative processes and meeting strict regulatory filing deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and helps resolve employee complaints and workplace issues.
  • Assesses emerging labor laws to proactively draft and implement compliant internal policies and organizational standards.
  • Writes and updates job descriptions and supports the employee performance review process.
  • Oversees the interactive process for FMLA and ADA, serving as the subject matter expert for complex accommodation requests.
  • Assists with health insurance and retirement plans, including troubleshooting benefit issues for employees
  • Serves as the final approval authority for life event changes, ensuring strict adherence to specialized benefit program criteria.
  • Manages specialized employee programs, such as the Travel Reduction Program (TRP) and student loan assistance programs.
  • Handles workplace injury reports, workers' compensation claims, and annual OSHA and BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) reporting.
  • Leads wellness programs, coordinates annual open enrollment, and orders employee milestone and anniversary awards.
  • Strategizes and leads the annual employee engagement calendar, focusing on cultural alignment and program efficacy.
  • Creates and sends out company-wide communications to keep staff informed.
  • Coordinates employee transfers and department moves in partnership with hiring managers.
  • Performs high-level data audits and ensures HRIS architecture scales with organizational growth
  • Handles the termination process, including HRIS processing, final pay coordination, and exit interviews.
  • Manages all unemployment claims by providing accurate and timely information to state agencies.
  • Supports the hiring process by posting open jobs and managing job request forms.
  • Responds to employment verification requests and general HR questions.
  • Assists with internal and external department audits by pulling requested files and records for Finance, Payroll, or legal subpoenas.
  • Responsible for the analysis and timely submission of annual OSHA, BLS, and EEO regulatory reporting.
  • Gathers records and prepares reports or documents to help the team prepare for meetings.
  • Handles confidential documents and sensitive information according to company policy.
  • Supports the HR team with special projects and other administrative tasks as needed.
