About The Position

As a direct report to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the administrative and transactional support of the employees. This role involves supporting the Director of HR with department lifecycle functions, particularly payroll, compensation, and benefits. The Generalist will assist employees with benefit enrollments and resolve related questions, manage personnel files in compliance with laws, and investigate employee complaints. Additionally, the role supports the annual performance review process, handles report writing and data analytics, and manages recruiting, onboarding, and hiring processes. A key aspect of this position is assisting in the management of union employees, including disciplinary actions, contract negotiations, and training. The Generalist will also collaborate with management on policy implementation, provide timely responses to employee and management inquiries, and coordinate various training programs, including managing the LMS and conducting HR-related training.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting a Human Resources Department.
  • Sharp, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate (oral and written) clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical employees.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • 3-5 years of experience with HRIS platforms; ADP Workforce Now highly preferred.
  • Must be able to prove independence in running payroll.
  • Knowledge of the various employment laws in numerous states.
  • Support of employees in multi-state and multi-locations as well as remote workers.
  • Experience working effectively in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Ability to learn new business software packages and programs as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or equivalent years of experience in a manufacturing or light industry company.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus
  • California experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a union environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of HR for department lifecycle functions with a focus on payroll, compensation, and benefits.
  • Assist employees in enrollment of benefits and help resolve benefit related questions.
  • Administration of personnel files, in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
  • Investigate complaints from employees (union and non-union).
  • Assist in annual performance review process through HRIS system, training, and coordination with management and employees.
  • Report writing and data analytics.
  • Recruiting/sourcing and hiring of new employees, onboarding and coordination of onboarding activities.
  • Assist in the management of Union employees to include disciplinary actions, contract negotiations, and training support.
  • Work collaboratively with management in the implementation of Company policies and Employee Handbook.
  • Timely responses to employee and management questions and concerns.
  • Coordinate regular training including management of LMS, conducting in-person HR related training, collaborating with internal teams, and partnering with third parties.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required by the Human Resources Director.
