About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support its pet and vet centers across the U.S. This role will serve as the HR support for multi-state and multi-site centers, collaborating with Operations and Support Center teams to provide proactive guidance. The HRBP will focus on ensuring a safe environment for people and pets, fostering employee development, and cultivating a high-performance culture. The position involves acting as a trusted strategic partner to district directors and center managers, aligning HR strategies with business goals, and ensuring smooth operations. The role requires a blend of strategic project work and administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Approximately 8 years of experience in HR/People Ops, including supporting teams through periods of significant growth and change.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on coaching, facilitation, and policy development.
  • Strong business acumen and a principled approach to decision-making, balancing business outcomes with employee experience, risk, and long-term scalability.
  • Flexibility in approach, avoiding rigid adherence to past playbooks or overly process-heavy solutions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a balance of strategic and hands-on execution.
  • Ability to balance working independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience supporting multiple centers in multiple states, working in different time zones and with high turnover rates.
  • Willingness to spend up to 50% of time traveling to visit unique centers.
  • Expertise in US employment law, compensation frameworks, and training and development programs.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and team effectiveness.
  • Proven success in managing complex employee relations issues.
  • Experience using Workday and other HR tools to drive operational excellence.

  • Experience working in veterinary hospitals or human healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic HR partner, building strong relationships with functional leaders and establishing credibility and trust.
  • Proactively assess team, manager, and company needs, provide recommendations, and implement solutions.
  • Build and evolve performance management practices, coaching managers through difficult performance conversations.
  • Help build scalable performance management approaches that align with company culture and operating principles.
  • Provide guidance to leaders in managing sensitive employee situations.
  • Act as a mediator and investigate escalated employee relations issues as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date on legal requirements related to employment and regulatory compliance, partnering with legal counsel to mitigate risk.
  • Bring deep knowledge of People Ops/HR functions, including performance management, employee relations, and compliance.
  • Translate business objectives into actionable people strategies.
  • Effectively convey information to all stakeholders through excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Present and facilitate discussions clearly and confidently.
