About The Position

The HR Associate is accountable to provide proactive HR support to operational teams. Partnering with Managers, the HR Associate will support implementation of HR initiatives aligned to operational planning. The HR Associate will support the day-to-day HR needs of the organization ensuring that stages in the employee life cycle are documented and maintained. This role supports core HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee records management, benefits administration, and compliance with provincial employment legislation. The HR Associate plays a key role in delivering responsive employee service while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of HR experience, ideally with exposure to multiple HR functions.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario and BC employment legislation (ESA, OHSA, AODA) and applicable Human Rights Codes, with practical application experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide guidance to managers and employees under supervision.
  • Ability to build relationships, manage sensitive situations with discretion, and support an inclusive workplace.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to change, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check required.

Nice To Haves

  • CHRP designation (or working towards) considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems such as ADP Workforce Now is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a point of contact for managers and employees on HR matters, providing guidance under HR Manager direction.
  • Supports managers in addressing workforce needs and applying HR policies and practices.
  • Builds positive relationships across the organization to foster a respectful and inclusive workplace.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee inquiries related to HR policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assists with recruitment processes, including job postings, screening, interviews, and offer coordination.
  • Coordinates onboarding and orientation for new hires.
  • Supports performance management processes, including documentation and follow-up on performance discussions.
  • Assists with leaves, accommodations, return-to-work processes, and employee changes, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Conducts exit interviews and provides summaries to the HR Manager for follow-up.
  • Provides guidance on HR policies and applicable provincial legislation (Ontario and BC ESA, OHSA, AODA, and Human Rights Codes) under HR Manager oversight.
  • Supports employee relations processes, including investigations and conflict resolution.
  • Assists managers with progressive discipline steps as directed.
  • Participates in workplace health & safety initiatives, including return-to-work programs.
  • Supports the implementation and review of HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of provincial employment legislation and workplace regulations and applies them in daily HR activities.
  • Prepares routine reports and assists with HR metrics to inform HR Manager decisions.
  • Coordinates and supports delivery of training initiatives, including compliance and employee development programs.
  • Gains exposure to HR projects and initiatives designed to develop consultative skills.
