About The Position

The Human Resources and Payroll Generalist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources and Payroll Department by processing personnel actions, maintaining employee and position records, supporting payroll activities, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of HRIS data. This position assists employees and supervisors with personnel and payroll-related transactions while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in human resources, payroll, personnel administration, or a related field; or Three (3) years of directly related experience in human resources, payroll, personnel administration, or a related field in lieu of the educational requirement
  • Ability to proficiently utilize Microsoft Office tools to create spreadsheets
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and a high volume of activity
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience working in higher education, government, public sector, or similarly complex organizational environments
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), payroll systems, and position management processes
  • Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Process and maintain Personnel Action Forms (PAFs) and related employment records in the HRIS and payroll systems
  • Enter, update, and maintain employee information, including hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, and separations
  • Manage position control within the HRIS, including creating, modifying, and maintaining positions to ensure data accuracy and proper organizational alignment
  • Review and audit employee and position data to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with payroll administration by verifying personnel actions and ensuring payroll records are accurate and up to date
  • Prepare and distribute HR and payroll reports, including staffing, position, and compliance reports
  • Respond to employee and supervisor inquiries regarding HR, payroll, and personnel transactions
  • Assist with audits, special projects, process improvements, and system testing as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
