About The Position

This dynamic role involves providing personalized service and partnership to multiple business areas and industries. The Human Resources Advisor will proactively identify opportunities, provide solid recommendations, and implement effective solutions to achieve business needs, talent management, employee development, and enhance the overall engagement and experience of teams. The ideal candidate will embody AMA values and culture, ensuring a high level of service and support by demonstrating business acumen, analytical and predictive thinking, tenacity to navigate ambiguity and change, and a consultative approach to partnering with client groups and advising on sensitive employee relations matters.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Five to ten years of progressive HR experience.
  • Experience in human resources using a consultative approach.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple concurrent initiatives and to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, and rapidly changing business environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to form strong relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Resiliency to handle shifting priorities and maintain a demeanor in high-intensity situations.
  • Proven track record working with multi-faceted and dynamic organizations.
  • Ability to work with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and HRIS systems, with the ability to create, format, and analyze data.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work, particularly when handling data and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI-powered tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar platforms.
  • CPHR designation; working towards it and participating in the local HR community.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director, Human Resources.
  • Work closely with people in a variety of different business areas to provide timely and accurate advice & coaching on employee relations, performance development and management.
  • Proactively handle employee relations, ensuring strong relationships are built with all employees and leaders within each Business Area.
  • Support the implementation of HR programs, providing change management, training, and follow-up support.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on complex employee situations to ensure they align with corporate culture, policies, and related legislation.
  • Work closely with business area leadership to create and promote a healthy work environment and engaged employees.
  • Conduct sensitive investigations and present findings, including recommended course(s) of action.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in HR policies & strategy through consulting, collaboration, workshop facilitation and presentations – providing advice and guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with leaders on AMA’s compensation philosophy and equity principles.
  • Collaborate with members of the broader HR team to ensure HR support to the business areas is consistent and meets operational needs.
  • Provide support for people programs including performance reviews, individual development plans, and employee engagement surveys.
  • Prepare and maintain information containing HR data and metrics to support analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
  • Conduct and analyze exit interviews and make actionable recommendations.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, the Canada Labour Code and other relevant legislation.
  • Look for operational efficiencies in HR programs and processes through ongoing review of content and guidelines.
