Human Resources Administrator

Atlas Excavating, Inc.West Lafayette, IN
Onsite

About The Position

Be part of the systems that support the people who build everything else. Atlas Excavating has taken on technically difficult heavy civil work since 1981. Our teams install deep sewers, manage wet excavation, remove rock, solve dewatering challenges, and complete the jobs other contractors often avoid. That work requires capable people—and dependable systems behind them. We are looking for a Human Resources Administrator to assist the People and Brand Department with key administrative activities to keep the daily details moving. You will provide support for recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, employee records, trade shows and career fair coordination, and general office operations for a workforce of approximately 150 employees. This position is ideal for someone early in their HR career who has the desire, drive, and patience to learn the system, learn the process, and then grow. This is not a role where you wait for work to come to you. Priorities will shift, people will need answers, and small details will have real consequences. The right person is organized, responsive, and willing to step in wherever the team needs support. This is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • One to two years of office experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized while managing multiple priorities.
  • Clear, professional communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Sound judgment when handling employee information and questions.
  • A willingness to tackle routine administrative work with the same care as high-visibility projects.
  • The ability to recognize when you can solve a problem and when it needs to be elevated.
  • Always ensure confidentiality.
  • Stay calm when several people need something at once.
  • Understand this is not your typical corporate HR department.
  • Can easily communicate and work with both field and office employees.
  • Believe that accurate records, timely communication, and a well-run onboarding process matter.
  • Do not consider any necessary task “beneath” you.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Post approved job openings, schedule interviews, order background checks, and other recruiting related activities.
  • Schedule new-hire onboarding and orientation.
  • Update and maintain accurate employee files, HR system data, and system access.
  • Process new-hire benefit enrollments and coordinate HSA match activities.
  • Support annual benefits open enrollment, collect and track employee elections, and provide updated employee deductions to payroll.
  • Respond to general questions and elevate as appropriate.
  • Complete registration for and coordinate items (i.e. Atlas display, giveaways, collaterals, etc.) for Atlas’ participation in career fairs, trade shows, and annual conferences.
  • Assist with planning employee functions, company gatherings, and special events.
  • Provide backup support for front-desk coverage, office supplies, mail and package distribution, and refreshment stations.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and see them through to completion.
