About The Position

The HR Generalist serves as a vital partner to our field operations, working directly with local management and field employees to drive engagement, retention, and organizational growth. This is a highly collaborative, people-focused role designed for an HR professional who thrives on building relationships in the field and coaching leadership. Because our engagement and development programs are actively evolving, you will play a key, hands-on role in designing, piloting, and executing new talent, morale, and retention initiatives from the ground up. Based in Houston, this hybrid role combines remote flexibility with essential on-site collaboration. The position provides direct support to our South Texas locations, as well as one designated branch in both New Mexico and Nevada.

Requirements

  • Strong, approachable communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trust and comfortably interact with employees at all levels, from field staff to senior management.
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll within a modern HRIS/payroll system.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong capability in coaching managers through employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • A collaborative and creative mindset, with the ability to help design, pilot, and execute new HR programs and initiatives from the ground up.
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and a high level of professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential employee information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
  • Competent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and modern HRIS platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the weekly travel requirements of the territory.
  • 3-5 years of HR experience required
  • Prior hands-on payroll processing experience required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with local and regional management to align daily HR practices with the organization's broader operating strategy.
  • Act as a visible, accessible resource for employees in the field, handling routine inquiries and fostering a supportive, communicative work environment.
  • Process end-to-end payroll on an alternating schedule (every other cycle, roughly once per month), ensuring accurate calculating of wages, hours, withholdings, and deductions in partnership with the payroll department.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to design, develop, and execute brand-new employee retention, recognition, and growth programs.
  • Provide regular guidance, advice, and coaching to field management on daily employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and workplace investigations, ensuring fair and consistent treatment.
  • Support supervisors in navigating talent management, productivity, and morale challenges within their teams.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential personnel files including documentation for onboarding, promotions, transfers, and separations.
  • Process unemployment claims and assist with appeals as necessary.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure continuous organizational compliance.
  • Evaluate team feedback and department metrics to recommend new, practical approaches and policies that improve HR services and field efficiency.
  • Lead or support special HR initiatives and projects as requested by leadership.
  • Partner and collaborate closely with cross-functional departments including recruiting, benefits, payroll, safety, legal, operations, and accounting to ensure cohesive support for field operations and seamless delivery of HR services.
  • Travel regionally on a weekly basis to locations within the assigned territory: South Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada.
  • Travel occasionally to the corporate office in Houston for department meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
