About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Human Factors Scientist for its Human Factors Practice in Chicago, IL, with a start date in late 2026/early 2027. This role involves applying expertise in perception, attention, memory, decision making, learning, and performance to safety-critical domains such as vehicles, consumer products, and industrial operations. The position is part of a multidisciplinary team focused on solving complex client challenges and contributing to a safer, healthier, and more sustainable world. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Cognitive/Experimental/Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Neuroscience, or a related discipline
  • A robust publication record on research on topics such as human cognition, decision-making, learning, and/or performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, stellar time management and organizational skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation, and data analysis
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Currently based in or willing to relocate to the Chicago area and be enthusiastic about regularly working in the office

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, MATLAB, or Python

Responsibilities

  • Providing scientific and technical guidance into the prevention and/or investigation of accidents in domains including vehicles, consumer products, and industrial operations
  • Preparing written reports and/or presentations communicating complex analyses clearly and succinctly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Managing multi-disciplinary projects by providing case management and project support to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Conducting research to identify and review relevant technical data, scientific literature, and standards for ongoing projects
  • Participating in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information
  • Developing and maintaining client contacts
