About The Position

We are seeking an accomplished Human Factors Expert Witness to join our team of forensic professionals. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in human performance, driver behavior, fatigue, distraction, visibility/conspicuity, perception-reaction time, and related factors that influence real-world incidents. This role is a strong fit for a human factors specialist who is passionate about applying scientific research to litigation and helping attorneys understand why people behave the way they do in complex environments. This is a unique opportunity for a highly credentialed expert to analyze human behavior, translate scientific findings into clear opinions, and provide compelling testimony that supports the legal process.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Human Factors, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Cognitive Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Extensive experience analyzing human performance, driver behavior, distraction, fatigue, visibility, and perception-reaction time.
  • Proven background conducting forensic investigations and delivering expert reports and testimony.
  • Strong understanding of human behavior in transportation environments, including work zones, low-light conditions, expectancy, ADAS, and human error analysis.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to apply scientific methods to real-world incidents.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities — with the capability to explain complex behavioral science clearly to attorneys, juries, and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP) strongly preferred.
  • Prior expert witness experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic evaluations of human performance, including driver actions, distraction, fatigue/sleep deprivation, visibility, looming, expectation, and perception-reaction time.
  • Review case materials, scene evidence, vehicle data, and environmental factors to assess human behavior and decision-making in accident scenarios.
  • Prepare detailed written reports and expert opinions grounded in human factors principles, peer-reviewed research, and accepted scientific methodology.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in depositions, mediations, and trials — clearly explaining how behavioral, perceptual, and cognitive factors contributed to the incident.
  • Consult with legal teams to identify case strengths/weaknesses, isolate key human-factor issues, and assist in developing litigation strategy.
  • Conduct literature reviews, create timelines, analyze visibility conditions, and evaluate warnings, conspicuity, and user expectations.
  • Stay current on human factors research, transportation safety, driver behavior science, fatigue studies, and relevant industry standards.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and flexible working arrangements.
  • Full support from a seasoned forensic team, including research resources, report editing, and case management.
  • Professional development opportunities such as deposition coaching, testimony training, and ongoing education in emerging human factors research.
  • A collaborative environment where your expertise is valued and your contributions directly influence case outcomes.
