About The Position

Coach Across America is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2010, focused on leveraging the power of coaches to transform the lives of vulnerable youth and their communities through sports. Strive: How You Lead Matters is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading character-driven leadership through dynamic experiences in sport, school, and community spaces. Strive's mission is to empower individuals from all backgrounds to become character-driven leaders via intentionally designed social-emotional learning curricula and programs, fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. This service position is for an AmeriCorps Member serving with Strive, with a service term from August 2026 to July 2027. The role involves supporting and/or leading physical education classes, supervising students during lunch and recess, providing academic support through tutoring and homework assistance, and facilitating Strive programming. The goal is to build strong, supportive relationships with young people, helping them develop confidence, leadership skills, athletic ability, and healthy habits. Strive Coaches are expected to lead with integrity and create joyful, inclusive spaces where students can thrive, supported by comprehensive training in sports-based youth development.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
  • Minimum age of 18
  • High school diploma, GED, or in progress
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to fulfill all AmeriCorps service requirements
  • Successful completion of background screenings
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships
  • Interest in education, mentoring, coaching, Social-Emotional Learning, youth development, leadership, or athletics

Nice To Haves

  • Comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc.)
  • Previous experience teaching, coaching, or facilitating

Responsibilities

  • Support and/or lead physical education (PE) classes.
  • Partner with school staff to supervise students during lunch and recess.
  • Provide academic support through tutoring and homework assistance.
  • Facilitate Strive programming.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with young people.
  • Lead structured recess sessions.
  • Coach or assist with school or community sports teams.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group student support.
  • Demonstrate athletic skills and encourage active participation.
  • Implement behavior-support strategies.
  • Reinforce social-emotional skill-building throughout the day.
  • Help gather program surveys and roster information.
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and active play environment.
  • Complete the minimum required hours (900 hours in this position) of service and training by the last day of the coach contract.
  • Attend the Coach Across America Coach orientation.
  • Complete bi-weekly timesheets.
  • Attend organization-wide days of community service.
  • Attend/participate in Coach Across America trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
  • Attend Coach Training Institute.
